Our Summer 2014 Plans

This upcoming summer is looking like it will be full of lots of new things, adventure, growth, love, fun and hopefully lots of time outdoors.

May:

-Andrew is leaving for the WHOLE month for an internship in NYC. My heart is aching to go along because I love that city so much but sadly Rosie and I will be staying in P-town on our own. We will miss him like crazy!

-The Annual Girl's Trip that I go on every year with my friends will be in May. We are going to St. George to relax and play. Rosie will be tagging along this year too. Lucky her!

-I have set some lofty goals to start painting again and to schedule a solo show in a gallery by the end of this month to push myself to make more work.

June:

-Zundels are putting a pool in their backyard that should be completed this month and we cannot way to take Rosie swimming everyday. Her grandma is an awesome swim teacher and I'm hoping Rosie will like being in the water.

-Both Andrew and my birthdays are this month so June always guarantees lots of celebration with cake, presents and family. (Not only are our birthdays this month but 3 of my sisters and 1 of my nephews as well.)

-We hope to make it out of Provo at least one during June. Typically our destination of choice is St. George since it is fairly close but still far enough to feel like we are getting away and because we have a free place to stay there and you can't beat free. We love the good local eats and the beautiful hikes we go on down there.

July:

-A Zundel wedding will take place. I cannot wait to have another sister-in-law. Adrienne is a doll! I foresee this month totally consumed by wedding plans and preparation.

August:

-So far August is free and open. We will have to plan some fun adventures for our little family to end the summer before Andrew starts school again.

Daily Bed Head

It is inevitable----->with short hair comes crazy bed head.

Earlier this year a friend of mine proposed to me the idea of documenting my bed head. It took me a while to warm up to the thought of taking a close up picture of my face as soon as I role out of bed in the morning but I have found this "project" to be very informative to who I am. I know that sounds silly but it's true. Somehow these daily snap shots have taken on a personality of their own and I quite like them.

This is only the beginning. I have made a goal to do 100 days of bed head. I am posting them daily (or at least I try) on instagram. You can find me under lauragzundel if you want to follow along. I will periodically post them here as well.

more/less

I got the idea for this post from Claire at All the Belles and Whistles. If you don't know her blog, please check it out here. She is such a beautiful inspiration to me in many ways.

For starters, she is very in-tune with herself.
Her needs.
Her wants.
Physically, spiritually and mentally, and any other -ally.

She has been such a good friend to me in school. We met when we were both applying to the Studio Art Program. I knew instantly that I liked her and that we would get along real well. But I'll write another time about how awesome Claire is. For now I want to address the topic that she inspired me with of More/Less.

Last night I found myself trying to figure out how I have let myself go in multiple areas of my life only to put importance on things that are probably not so important. This post* Claire did a while back came creeping into my mind as I was making a list to challenge myself to be better. There are so many ways I am looking to improve myself. I think this sudden urge has something to do with being in school again. I feel like school often infuses me with the desire and the will to grow, excel, and improve.

Here is my take on the idea of more/less:

more patience
less intolerance

more quiet moments
less noise

more healthy foods
less quick easy meals

more walking
less driving

more doing
less thinking

more smiles
less tears

more endurance
less quitting

more simple
less complex

more organized
less chaotic

more quality time
less electronic communication

more stability
less change

more acceptance
less judgement

and last but not least
more love

So, for the next little while, I'll be keeping this list in my brain throughout the day consciously trying to do it justice. I hope this helps you to think a bit more about your life and your goals as it did mine. Have a happy week my friends!

-Laura

*disclaimer: I cannot find the original post on Claire's blog so I don't even know how closely mine relates and I super hope that I didn't exactly copy what she wrote in her post. All I remember from hers is the theme of more/less and it really left an imprint in my memory. Sorry Claire if any of this bothers you...
